Contract News & Deals Updates Editor
The beauty commerce team at Dotdash Meredith is looking for a part-time Commerce Updates Editor to write, update, and edit news- and deals-focused affiliate shopping content in the beauty and style space. The ideal candidate is an experienced, savvy digital editor who is familiar with news-centric commerce and able to work comfortably (and at times, independently) in a fast-paced environment. You will be responsible for updating and optimizing copy, headlines, product selection, and any other necessary elements on batches of news & deals commerce articles for InStyle and Shape, and on a smaller scale, Byrdie and Brides. You’ll also edit, pitch, and write timely, short-form articles for the above brands, as determined by your manager.
Assignment Details:
We are looking for someone who is able to work 2 days per week every week during regular east coast business hours; specific days of week and length of contract are up for discussion.
Start date: Ability to start by mid-October 2024 is preferred.
End date: Negotiable
Hourly Rate: $30
Location: Remote - US
Essential job functions:
40% updating stories
Update commerce articles across the beauty vertical for accuracy and freshness
30% writing
Contribute 1-4 short-form commerce articles per week as needed
30% editing
Assist senior editors with team editing workload as needed

Assignment responsibilities and skills/experience:
4 years experience minimum writing and editing digital content at a major lifestyle publication; commerce content experience is highly preferred
Experienced freelancer interested in guaranteed weekly hours/pay that can work a minimum of 16 hours per week (on a set schedule, for the most part)
Experience pitching, writing, and editing beauty, style, and celebrity content; you have your finger on the pulse of what’s new and trending, plus what will resonate with readers from a commerce perspective
Able to write and edit on tight deadlines based on the news and sales cycle; quick turnaround is expected
Flexible when it comes to daily assignments and able to seamlessly pivot from task to task while still upholding brand style/voice and creating quality content
