Our Sr Director, Strategic Partnerships and Foundation Operations is responsible for the operational and financial success of the AORN Foundation and for identifying, developing and managing strategic relationships with key stakeholders in the healthcare industry to accelerate the growth and market presence of the AORN enterprise. With a focus on relationship building, communication and negotiations, the Sr Director plays a vital role in advancing the organization’s missions and impact, expanding influence, and driving revenue through strategic collaborations. The Sr Director serves as the liaison between the AORN Enterprise and senior strategy leaders within partnership organizations, fostering strong and productive relationships through all phases of the strategic partnership cycle, including identifying, researching, cultivating and soliciting enterprise-wide prospects. This position plans, implements and evaluates outreach and engagement strategies in collaboration with AORN sales and delivery teams. The Sr Director manages the Foundation Corporate Council and serves as a strategic advisor reporting to the Foundation Board of Trustees.

Fundraising and Strategic Partnerships

  • Ensures proper stewardship of existing corporate and foundation relationships, including acknowledgment, recognition, and reporting on the impact of their support.
  • Collaborates with the Executive Team to define and refine the partnership strategy for the healthcare market, considering current and future Enterprise objectives and market trends.
  • Contributes to enhancing the strategic goals of AORN through planning and executing a comprehensive fundraising and strategic partnership program.
  • Identifies and evaluates potential partners in the healthcare industry, including healthcare providers, payers, pharmaceutical companies, medical device manufacturers, and other relevant organizations.
  • Initiates and maintains relationships with key decision-makers to explore and tailor collaboration opportunities.
  • Leads contract negotiations with prospective partners, ensuring agreements align with strategic objectives and legal requirements. Coordinates with internal stakeholders, such as legal, industry sales, marketing and finance teams, to ensure smooth contract execution.
  • Builds and maintains strong relationships with strategic partners, acting as the primary point of contact with key strategic stakeholders to foster partnerships and secure financial support. Fosters open communication, address partner needs, and nurture long-term partnerships that drive mutual success.
  • Collaborates with internal teams including, but not limited to Industry Sales, Marketing, Nursing Education, Nursing Practice, Pfiedler, Membership, Accounting, IT, BI and Legal to ensure alignment and effective execution of partnership initiatives. Drives internal awareness and understanding of partnership benefits and opportunities.
  • Stays current on the healthcare market landscape, industry trends, and competitive intelligence. Conducts market analysis to identify new business opportunities and potential partners that align with our strategic objectives.
  • Generates regular reports and presentations to provide insights into partnership performance, including key metrics, milestones, and ROI to the Boards and Executive Team. Leverages data-driven analysis to drive continuous improvement and inform decision-making processes.
  • Represents the organization at networking events, conferences, and meetings to identify new funding opportunities, cultivate relationships, and promote the organization's work.

 

Board of Trustees and Corporate Council            

  • Works with the Foundation Nominating Committee and Board of Trustees to develop and implement strategies for financial and strategic expansion across the AORN enterprise.
  • Develops and maintains strong relationships, acting as the primary point of contact for day-to-day interactions.
  • Provides orientation to new Board members.
  • Prepares reports and materials for the Board of Trustees as requested and required for transparency of financial and strategic progress and status.
  • Works with appropriate volunteer committees to implement Foundation fundraising and program initiatives.
  • Manages Corporate Council including development and implementation of processes, frameworks, and metrics to effectively oversee the impact of the Corporate Council.
  • Monitors performance, track key deliverables, and evaluates the overall success of the Corporate Council against predefined goals and objectives.
  • Stays informed about industry developments, competitive landscape, and regulatory changes affecting the nonprofit and healthcare sectors.

 

Administration

  • Develops a comprehensive Foundation fundraising and program agenda based on the strategic plan for use by boards, committees, and staff in alignment with AORN’s strategic initiatives.
  • Responsible for budget planning and implementation. 
  • Establishes and implements Foundation policies and department structure as directed by the Board of Trustees and as required for internal operations.
  • Hires, develops and evaluates direct reports.
  • Works with other departments to facilitate implementation and ongoing support of the fundraising and strategic partnership programs.
  • Ensures programs and projects keep on schedule and reports are completed on a timely basis.
  • Communicates regularly with Boards and AORN leadership regarding Foundation and strategic partnership programs.
  • Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications

Must Have’s to be our Sr Director, Strategic Partnerships and Foundation Operations:

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • Master’s degree in business management, nonprofit management or related field.
  • At least 10 years of experience with senior level client relations, business development or nonprofit management in the healthcare industry.
  • At least 5 years of experience in managing boards and volunteers.
  • At least 5 years of experience managing direct reports.

 

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Experience in nonprofit fundraising.
  • Solid understanding of the healthcare market landscape, including key players, trends, and regulatory environment.
  • Extensive network in relevant industries with the ability to make connections and build relationships with potential partners.
  • Previous experience working in hospital or healthcare systems, medical device industry or surgical services industry.
  • Experience developing and overseeing a budget.
