We are looking for an individual with the ability to make sound judgements to draw out key information, while engaging with empathy and curiosity to deliver on key objectives.

The Team

The Authorisations Division is responsible for assessing and determining applications from firms and individuals conducting regulated activities, to ensure they are set up to meet our standards.  Authorisations touches on every sector and is home to the Supervision Hub, the Financial Services Register and Early Oversight. Our work has a significant impact on conduct in the financial services markets, by being a robust gatekeeper and ensuring firms’ business models are sustainable and people are competent and act with integrity.

The Division uses Authorisation and Early Oversight to help deliver our public offer,​ and as a tool to protect consumers from the harm that can be caused by bad conduct in the financial services industry. ​ Our transformation strategy focuses on how we digitise the gateway, through improved use of data. This is about making us ready for the future, both to meet the needs and expectations of applicants who use our services, but also to improve our effectiveness. We work with the FCA Supervision, Policy and Competition teams as well as Enforcement and Market Oversight, to enable a holistic and coordinated approach to regulation. 

We are recruiting for a talented, enthusiastic Case Officer to work as an Associate in the Cancellations team within the new Controllers and Cancellations Department in Authorisations.

What you will be doing

You will be responsible for assessing the viability of a firm’s application to cancel its Part 4A permission or payment services registration.

You will work closely with a variety of relevant stakeholders as well as the firm, until a decision is made on an application. This role requires close working with many other colleagues in the FCA and PRA, including Supervision, Policy and Sector Teams. There will also be the opportunity to participate in team and cross department ad-hoc project work.

You will be expected to demonstrate:

  • Efficient management of a high volume of cases

  • The ability to identify, evaluate, investigate and pre-empt risks to the FCA's statutory and operational objectives

  • Good communication and influencing skills with key internal and external stakeholders, including applicant firms

  • The ability to make strong and timely judgements, based upon accurate consideration of all relevant factors

  • Excellent time and workload management, demonstrating the ability to manage and prioritise different tasks effectively

  • Working collaboratively and supporting colleagues

The skills and experience you will have

Minimum

  • Prior experience within case management to ensure that all cases are assessed correctly, meeting service standards and statutory deadlines

  • Prior experience working on financial services and/or regulatory issues

  • Excellent written communication skills
