Job Description Summary

As the Vice President of Media Strategy, you will lead the development, execution, and optimization of the company’s holistic media strategies for paid, social and public relations channels to support overall business objectives. In this leadership role, you will be responsible for driving strategic investment planning and the successful in-market execution across all paid, owned, and earned media channels, and staff office communication. This position requires close collaboration with cross-functional teams and stakeholders, ensuring alignment with corporate goals, brand consistency, and audience engagement.

Job Description

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead development and implementation of an integrated, multi-year media strategy that drives business growth and strengthens the company’s brand across all relevant channels, including overall long-term investment strategy.

  • Partner with internal marketing and business stakeholders to ensure alignment between media strategy and broader corporate objectives, delivering a consistent and effective brand message across paid, owned, and earned channels.

  • Lead evaluation of media resources, trends, technology and tools, challenging current processes with new thinking and opportunities, and constant focus on improving the impact and efficiency of media investments.  

  • Lead, mentor, and manage teams responsible for all media-related functions, including paid media, social media, public relations, and staff office communications.

  • Provide clear direction to media, social and PR agencies that creates a collaborative, integrated approach to strategy development and in-market execution.

  • Provide clear direction to internal and external teams that provide analytics and technology support to optimize media investments and ensure efficient allocation of resources.

  • Provide strategic insights and recommendations to executive leadership on media performance and opportunities for growth.

  • Foster a culture of collaboration, creativity, and excellence within the media strategy team.

  • Partners with the Enterprise Brand Strategy & Activation leadership team in the development and integrated execution of Nationwide’s brand strategy. Determines how to bring the brand to life across all media channels enabling competitive prices, driving intermediary recommendations, and fueling brand choice.

  • Oversee associate management including performance management, salary planning and administration, training and development, workflow and organization planning, day-to-day management, hiring and placement, and disciplinary actions for direct and indirect reports.

May perform other responsibilities as assigned. 

 

Reporting Relationships: Reports to SVP, Enterprise Brand Strategy & Activation. Leads a team of approximately 45 marketing professionals.  

Typical Skills and Experience: 

Education: Bachelor’s degree in Marketing; MBA preferred. 

License/Certification/Designation: Requires Series 6, Series 26 license to be obtained within 120 days of hire. 

 

Experience: Typically, 10 or more years experience in Marketing, operations, and experience in agency management required. Previous leadership experience required. 

 

Knowledge, Abilities and Skills: Strong understanding of foundational marketing principles, strategies, tactics and trends. Experience working in a team or agency environment to create and direct media strategies that drive desired outcomes with a focus on analytics and value of data. Demonstrated strategic thinker with proven experience creating strategies that are executable. Exceptional leadership, client management and organizational skills. Ability to inspire associates and clients collaborating with them to create a culture of growth and innovation. Strong communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to be a consensus builder. Ability to strategically articulate the roadmap of the team and requirements for success across many cross-functional teams and partners.  

 

Other criteria, including leadership skills, competencies and experiences may take precedence. 

Staffing exceptions to the above require the approval of the hiring manager’s leader and Human Resources Business Partner.

Job Conditions: 

Overtime Eligibility: Exempt (not eligible). 

Working Conditions: Normal office environment; reporting teams are across different locations and geographies. Requires effective collaboration in hybrid on-site / remote working environments. Some travel may be required
