The Prescribed Fire Council Coordinator provides technical leadership and support by administering the Mississippi Prescribed Fire Council, developing and implementing the Council’s programs, serving as liaison with partners and promoting the use of prescribed fire across the state. The position will work closely with the Mississippi Dept. of Wildlife, Fisheries and Parks to carry out the responsibilities of the Mississippi Prescribed Fire Council.

What You'll Bring

  • BA/BS, natural resource discipline and 5 years’ experience in natural resource management or related field or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Experience negotiating complex agreements.
  • Supervisory experience.
  • Experience communicating with the public and/or media both in writing and verbally.
  • Experience using applications such as Microsoft Word, Excel, and Web Browsers.

Desired Qualifications

  • Certified Prescribed Burn Manager in Mississippi.
  • Experience planning and conducting prescribed fire.
  • Experience in website and media development.
  • Leadership experience in a professional organization.
  • Knowledge of land management conservation practice and conservation science.
  • Ability to explain conservation practices to technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Knowledge of current trends and practices in conservation, land management, and natural resource preservation.
  • Completing tasks independently with respect to timeline(s).
  • Excellent communication skills via written, spoken and graphical means in English and other relevant languages.
  • Experience with principles of land acquisition.
  • Experience in training and curriculum design.

SALARY INFORMATION

The starting pay range for a candidate selected for this position is generally within the range of $75,000 - $85,000 for annual base salary. This range only applies to candidates whose country of employment is the USA. Where a successful candidate’s actual pay will fall within this range will be based on a variety of factors, including, for example, the candidate's location, qualifications, specific skills, and experience. Please note countries outside the USA would have a different pay range in the local currency based on the local labor market, and not tied to USA pay or ranges. Your geographic location will be confirmed during the recruitment.
