We are seeking an experienced and highly motivated Applied Scientist - Machine Learning Manager to lead and manage a team of machine learning scientists and engineers. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in applied machine learning, a proven track record of deploying machine learning models at scale, and leadership experience in driving complex machine learning projects from research to production.

As a Machine Learning Manager, you will work closely with cross-functional teams including data engineering, product management, and software engineering to develop and deploy innovative AI-driven solutions that directly impact business outcomes. You will mentor and guide your team in cutting-edge research, model development, and productionalization, while staying current on emerging technologies and trends in the field of machine learning.

Responsibilities:

Leadership & Strategy:

Lead, mentor, and manage a team of applied scientists and machine learning engineers.

Define the vision, strategy, and roadmap for machine learning initiatives in collaboration with senior leadership.

Oversee the entire ML lifecycle, from problem definition, data collection, and research to model deployment and monitoring.

Ensure alignment of machine learning projects with overall business objectives and key performance metrics.

Model Development & Deployment:

Design and implement advanced machine learning models and algorithms to solve complex business problems (e.g., recommendation systems, predictive analytics, NLP, computer vision).

Collaborate with data engineering teams to ensure robust data pipelines and scalable infrastructure for model training and deployment.

Lead the effort to move ML models from research into production, ensuring models are scalable, efficient, and reliable.

Optimize and improve the performance of existing machine learning models.

Collaboration & Cross-functional Work:

Partner with product managers and business leaders to understand key challenges and translate business problems into machine learning solutions.

Collaborate with software engineers to integrate machine learning solutions into production systems.

Foster collaboration between teams, promoting a culture of innovation and knowledge sharing.

Research & Innovation:

Stay updated on the latest advancements in machine learning, deep learning, and artificial intelligence.

Promote and encourage continuous learning within the team by fostering a research-oriented mindset.

Identify and explore opportunities to leverage emerging technologies to enhance existing models and systems.

Qualifications:

Master’s or PhD in Computer Science, Machine Learning, Statistics, or a related field.

5+ years of experience in applied machine learning, with a focus on developing and deploying models in real-world applications.

Proven experience in managing and mentoring teams of machine learning scientists or engineers.

Expertise in machine learning frameworks and libraries (e.g., TensorFlow, PyTorch, Scikit-learn).

Strong programming skills in Python, Java, or C++.

Experience with cloud platforms (e.g., AWS, Azure, Google Cloud) for machine learning model development and deployment.

In-depth knowledge of modern ML and AI techniques, such as supervised and unsupervised learning, reinforcement learning, deep learning, and natural language processing.

Strong problem-solving and analytical skills, with the ability to navigate complex technical challenges.

Excellent communication skills and the ability to convey complex ideas to non-technical stakeholders.

Preferred Qualifications:

Experience working in a fast-paced environment such as a tech startup or a highly innovative enterprise.

Strong understanding of MLOps practices and familiarity with tools such as Docker, Kubernetes, and CI/CD pipelines for model deployment.

Experience in specialized areas such as computer vision, NLP, or reinforcement learning.

Published research in recognized ML/AI journals or conferences is a plus.
