The Opportunity

Valvoline has a rewarding opportunity as a Sr. Director, Development and Construction. In this role, you will be accountable for store design strategy, entitlement, and construction execution for Quick Lubes. This position enables Quick Lube's retail store growth objectives for each Quick Lube platform on a global basis: Valvoline Instant Oil Change (VIOC) Company, VIOC Franchise, and Great Canadian Oil Change (GCOC). Major responsibilities include identifying and managing third-party professional service providers (architects and engineers), leading the permitting and entitlement activities for the entire Quick Lubes project portfolio, and oversight, and continuous improvement of the store construction process.

 

How You'll Make a Difference

  • Oversee the entire permitting and construction process and drive continuous improvement initiatives in a) architecture and engineering, b) zoning, permitting, and third-party approvals, c) contractor identification, bidding, and selection, d) materials, methods, and timing, e) documentation, specifications, and construction details, f) quality assurance for delivered work.
  • Identify, select, lead, and utilize a professional infrastructure of architects, engineering firms, and other third-party service firms working in concert with internal team members to create a seamless development team and program for Quick Lubes.
  • Oversee the design and entitlement work necessary to meet VIOC and GCOC ground-up store growth goals; collaborate with Real Estate, Legal, and Operations regarding site feasibility from an operational and financial perspective; approve all new store site layouts; oversee the planning detail of permitting timelines required to support real estate deal negotiations; responsible for the delivery of permits within contract deadlines.
  • Direct investment strategy for acquired stores to company standards; accountable for defining the project investment strategy and scope of work that balances potentially conflicting priorities while delivering operational safety, brand standards, and meeting project financial hurdles; manage the expectations of all stakeholders as required to ensure conversion strategy is consistent with site-specific requirements and approved budgets.
  • Oversee the execution of work through a combination of planning and field inspections to ensure conversions and capital projects are consistent with approved scopes of work, per company specifications, and completed in a professional manner; provide coaching and upskilling to the Manager of Facilities and the Facilities Project Managers.
  • Oversee the requirements and the preparation of the annual capital budget for all acquisitions, store improvements, special projects, and the new store construction program.
  • Oversee image technical design and strategy work for VIOC, VIOCF, GCOC, and Express Care locations. Major responsibilities include defining and approving specifications and manufacturing details, ensuring vendor compliance with company trademarks, and driving quality assurance via inspections of stores and manufacturing facilities. Collaborate with Sr. Management, Operations, Marketing, Franchising, and Express Care to ensure consistency and customer satisfaction with the image program.
  • Serve as the subject matter expert to the franchise community regarding site feasibility, entitlement process, construction methodology, and budgeting. Work directly with franchisee owners to support their needs and adapt their requirements while maintaining corporate standards and store criteria.
  • Other duties and responsibilities as determined by Valvoline from time to time in its sole discretion.

What You'll Need to Succeed

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Construction Management, or equivalent
  • Minimum of ten years of retail construction management experience
  • Minimum of ten years of staff management experience
  • Finance and budget control experience
  • Facility Design experience, including specification and detail development
  • Contract analysis and negotiation experience
  • Thorough knowledge of Microsoft Office and working knowledge of Lucemex or equivalent project management tools
  • Must be authorized to work in the U.S.
