Job Description

EBT/MIS Technical Document Specialist - RN

As required by our governmental client, this position requires being a US Citizen.

The duties and responsibilities of the EBT/MIS Technical Document Specialist-RN are to provide technical writing for policy and procedures, shopping guide, WIC Overseas handbook, and any writing needing for implementation of WIC Overseas EBT/MIS services. The RN will have knowledge of ensuring optimal nutrition and health during the critical stages of fetal and early childhood growth, to include services for pregnant, postpartum, and breastfeeding women. They will provide participants and their families with current nutrition information on infant feeding, early childhood nutritional practices and feeding patterns, optimal prenatal and post-partum nutrition counseling, and breastfeeding education. The RN will take on a vital role working with the EBT/MIS team to ensure USDA federal regulations are being followed and used in technical writing. Coordinate with EBT Nutritionist for updates on policy and procedure encompassing any USDA regulations for WIC Allowable formulary.

Compensation & Benefits:

Estimated Starting Hourly Range for EBT/MIS Technical Document Specialist - RN: $45.67

Pay commensurate with experience.

EBT/MIS Technical Document Specialist - RN Responsibilities Include:

  • Interpret and monitor adherence to Federal and WIC Regulations and Policies, through consultation visits and management evaluations, and provision of quality nutrition services with coordinated efforts of EBT Nutritionist.
  • Knowledge of how to perform WIC participant certification including health and nutrition assessment/nutrition education for participants, including breastfeeding education/support and health referrals. Prescribe and issue supplemental, nutritious food packages.
  • Working with Nutritionist for updated research, stay actively involved with any updates, changes to USDA regulations, and communicate to EBT/MIS team with any changing of rules, expectations, and goals while ensuring compliance with federal regulations.
  • Keeps managers apprised of any challenges/problems that could jeopardize any deadlines.
  • Technical writing, updating, editing policy and procedures, shopping guide, WIC Overseas handbook and any materials needing updating.
  • Proofreads content and edits for flow before submission and throughout reviews and revision cycles.
  • Identifies and edits any discrepancies created by reviewers including but not limited to acronym usage, grammar, punctuation, and spelling.
  • Knowledge of how to determine eligibility and certify participants for care and benefits through health, nutrition, and financial assessments.
  • Knowledge of how to evaluate food intake, dietary history, health history, anthropometrical measurements, and biochemical test results to establish medical/nutritional risk.
  • Assess and determine social, financial, and medical service needs.
  • Prepares and submits drafts of any technical writing tasked to do, review, edit and submit final draft for printing.
  • Assists with editing, updating changing policy and procedures to current USDA standards, including adding EBT and New MIS.
  • Knowledge of WIC Overseas administrative duties.
  • Attend meetings and other training as assigned.
  • Knowledge of how to schedule appointments for participants as needed following appropriate time standards for each type of appointment.
  • Is professional, self-controlled, self-directed, and mature.
  • Maintains strict confidentiality regarding participant and office matters.
  • Current acceptable driver’s license.
  • Personal auto liability insurance is mandatory.
  • Performs other job-related duties as assigned.

EBT/MIS Technical Document Specialist - RN Experience, Education, Skills, Abilities requested:

  • Requires a BS in Nutrition, Dietetics, Nursing or Home Economics, with an emphasis in nutrition, or Physician or Physician Assistant with additional coursework in nutrition.
  • Must be a registered or licensed professional.
  • Registered Dietitian preferred.
  • Breastfeeding certification (IBCLC, CLC or CE) desirable.
  • Our ideal candidate will also have a minimum of two years of supervisory experience.
  • Must have working experience with IBM compatible computer systems.
  • Must have knowledge of MS Word or WordPerfect and Excel software.
  • Knowledge of how to provide participants with referrals to medical and/or social service organizations as needed and follow-up as appropriate.
  • Document assessment data according to DoD WIC Overseas Policy and Procedure Manual.
  • Knowledge on how to provide one-on-one nutrition education for WIC Overseas participants.
  • Develop individual nutritional plans for participants.
  • Knowledge of breastfeeding education and support.
  • Knowledge of how to Issue drafts and schedule follow-up appointments.
  • Knowledge of end of day data transfer and computer back up.
  • Demonstrates organizational skills and ability to work independently.
  • Provide timely communication to assigned managers regarding participant status.
  • If needed updating any outlines and lesson plans and nutrition education presentations relevant to participants’ needs.
  • Maintain HIPAA standards.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships and foster teamwork in a diverse environment.
  • Must pass pre-employment qualifications of Cherokee Federal.
