Software Product Designer

NexGen Data Systems is seeking a talented Software Product Designer to join a rapidly growing team. This position will be responsible for the design and development of Research, Development and Acquisition Information System (RDAIS) software for the Department of the Navy (DoN). Duties of this position include improving existing product designs and analyzing working concepts of similar products to match quality and performance. The ideal candidate will need to be a team player and be able to work both independently and collaboratively with exceptional organizational skills.  

Roles and Responsibilities:

• Create user interface designs for desktop based applications and cloud services for a technical audience. 
• Develop design prototypes for testing with users 
• Proven experience in all phases of the design process including user research, wire-framing, prototyping, visual design, interaction design, and usability testing. 
• Experience working on a development team and proven experience designing desktop applications.
• Experience improving existing product designs and analyzing work concepts.
• Experience designing concepts and drawings to determine the best product.
• Manages both qualitative and quantitative research methodologies and different data sets integration 
• This role will also be responsible for user interviews, defining personas, usability testing, service design, UI/UX visual design, and other duties that are related to this position.
• Collaborate with others to prioritize features and establish an Outcome Oriented Product Roadmap, Manage the Backlog and Produce Portfolio, Program, and Team Metrics in the Application Lifecycle Management tool (Atlassian Jira and Confluence)
• Collaborate with Engineers on Test-driven development, Pair programming, Evolutionary design, Collective code ownership, Retros, Short iterations, CI/CD.

Desired/Required Skills:

• Bachelor's degree in Physical Sciences, Computer Science, Mathematics, Psychology, Engineering, Physics, Network Security, or Information Systems OR at least 12 years of experience without a degree 
• 6+ years of experience in product design for technical products.
• 6+ years of UX/UI experience
• Proven experience in all phases of the design process including user research, wire-framing, prototyping, visual design, interaction design, and usability testing.  
• Experience improving existing product designs and analyzing working concepts.
• Experience designing concepts and drawings to determine the best product.
• Secret clearance or higher preferred.
• Outstanding organizational and time management skills
• Excellent communication and interpersonal abilities
• Reliable with exceptional work ethic
• Detail oriented with self-motivated attitude
• Collaborative, team focus to support cohesive work team
• Ability to handle competing priorities with high expectations in a team-oriented environment
