The Role 

We are seeking a driven, new team member to join our Peer Review department. You will be contributing to making Science Open by ensuring the rapid dissemination of high quality and valid articles. Ensuring a timely and thorough review process for all submitted manuscripts within a portfolio of journals or journal sections and providing professional customer service to our authors, reviewers and editors, assisting them through the process and supporting them with their queries. Peer review needs to be efficient, rigorous, fair, constructive, accountable, and transparent for everyone involved. 

What you will do 

  • Manages China inbox and China hotline, labeling, and forwarding emails as needed. 
  • Working within the Peer Review Platform to monitor the peer review process of manuscripts and to effectively manage delays in the process.  
  • Responding to priority queries and managing delays relating to the review process from editors, reviewers, authors and colleagues in other departments.  
  • Carrying out quality control checks to ensure rigorous peer review with no conflicts of interest.  
  • Participates in projects across Frontiers aimed at continuous improvement of the review process including internal guidelines, SOPs, processes, and working best practices. 
  • Provides analysis and proactive recommendations for product development of the review platform. 

Requirements

  • Master’s Degree, previous working experiences in scientific publishing are preferred.
  • Native Chinese speaker, excellent communication skills in both written and spoken English 
  • Excellent communicator, with interpersonal skills and the ability to clearly and discreetly discuss sensitive topics with internal and external partners 
  • Customer service mentality and excellent problem-solving skills 
  • Target driven and ability to work under pressure 
  • Excellent time management skills, able to effectively prioritize tasks and assess urgency; solutions-focused with good initiative taking proactive measures where necessary 
  • Personal commitment to professional ethics 
  • Previous working experiences in scientific publishing preferred
