The Senior IT System Engineer will play a critical role in designing, deploying, managing, and optimizing the IT infrastructure. This individual will be responsible for ensuring that all IT systems are aligned with business needs, secure, and scalable. The Senior IT System Engineer will also mentor junior staff, manage projects, and work closely with other departments to implement new technologies.

Key Responsibilities:

1. System Design and Implementation:

   • Design and implement robust, scalable, and secure IT infrastructure solutions, including servers, storage, networking, and cloud services.
   • Lead the planning and execution of system upgrades, patches, and migrations.
   • Evaluate new technologies and make recommendations for improvements or new implementations.

2. System Administration:

   • Perform regular maintenance, monitoring, and tuning of IT systems to ensure optimal performance and availability.
   • Manage and support server environments (Windows, Linux, etc.), virtualization platforms (VMware, Hyper-V), and cloud environments (AWS, Azure).
   • Ensure data integrity, backup strategies, and disaster recovery plans are in place and regularly tested.

3. Security Management:

   • Implement and maintain security protocols to protect IT systems from cyber threats.
   • Conduct regular security audits, vulnerability assessments, and penetration testing.
   • Respond to security incidents and lead efforts to mitigate risks.

4. Project Management:

   • Lead and manage IT projects from inception to completion, including timelines, budgets, and resource allocation.
   • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure successful project outcomes.
   • Provide regular project updates to stakeholders and ensure alignment with business objectives.

5. Technical Support and Troubleshooting:

   • Provide advanced troubleshooting and support for complex IT issues, including root cause analysis.
   • Act as an escalation point for junior IT staff and other departments.
   • Develop and maintain documentation for systems, processes, and procedures.

6. Mentorship and Leadership:

   • Mentor and train junior engineers and IT staff, fostering a culture of continuous learning and improvement.
   • Lead by example in following best practices, ethical standards, and company policies.
   • Contribute to strategic IT planning and decision-making.

7. Compliance and Documentation:

   • Ensure compliance with industry standards, regulations, and internal policies.
   • Maintain detailed documentation of all systems, configurations, and procedures.
   • Prepare reports on system performance, incidents, and project progress.

Qualifications:

• Education: Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field. Master’s degree preferred.
• Experience:
  • Minimum of 5-7 years of experience in IT system engineering or a similar role.
  • Proven experience with system design, deployment, and administration in complex environments.
  • Experience with cloud platforms (AWS, Azure) and virtualization technologies (VMware, Hyper-V).
• Technical Skills:
  • Proficient in Windows and Linux server environments.
  • Strong understanding of networking principles, including TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP, and VPNs.
  • Experience with security protocols, firewalls, and intrusion detection/prevention systems.
  • Familiarity with scripting languages (PowerShell, Python) and automation tools (Ansible, Puppet).
  • Knowledge of database management systems (SQL, MySQL) is a plus.
• Certifications: Relevant certifications such as MCSE, CCNP, AWS Certified Solutions Architect, or similar are highly desirable.
• Soft Skills:
  • Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal abilities.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Project management skills and the ability to manage multiple priorities.

Working Conditions:

• Work Environment: Primarily office-based with occasional travel to remote sites or data centers as needed.
• Hours: Full-time position with occasional after-hours work required for maintenance or emergencies.
