Your missions

Vice President, Finance

100% Remote within California, Must reside in California

We are seeking a Vice President of finance to join FoundationCCC in its mission of benefitting, supporting, and enhancing the California Community Colleges—the largest and most diverse system of higher education in the nation. Together, we are building stronger communities by getting students and colleges the resources they need to succeed and expanding pathways to economic and social mobility across California. Join us as we continue this important work to uphold the value of community colleges in building a brighter future.

What You’ll Do

This position represents an exciting opportunity to support the ongoing mission-driven growth of a high-impact non-profit organization that serves to benefit, support, and enhance the California Community Colleges, the largest system of higher education in the nation. This role requires a strong sense of analytics, technical competence, ability to understand mission-driven business strategies, ability to translate financial concepts to terms that non-finance professionals can understand, and ability to teach, coach, and mentor others at all levels of the organization. This position will be a strategic storyteller with the finance team and business leads to connect financial budgets, forecasts, and results to programmatic business strategies, our organizational strategic plan, and mission-driven impact for our diverse array of complex programs and services. This role will collaborate with the Controller to provide oversight of programmatic AR, grant reporting, contract administration, and financial close processes (monthly/quarterly/annual) as it relates to FoundationCCC’s 400+ projects within our six Areas of Impact.

  • Design, manage, and continuously improve processes and systems that enable financial management at FoundationCCC to thrive - including internal and external reporting, organizational and project budgeting and forecasting, grant oversight and reporting, cost recovery strategies, monitoring accounts receivable, and granular detail embedded in the chart of accounts.

  • Support, coach, and train to program accounting team members and program leadership across the organization on key aspects of financial management - including budgets, projections, cost-recovery strategies, sustainability considerations - to drive data-driven decision-making and deep understanding of how finance ties to mission-driven business strategies.

  • Partner with the Financial Leadership and Program Leadership to develop multi-year financial plans and underlying financial systems that enable real-time monitoring of actual activities against plans and ensure long-term programmatic financial strength and sustainability.

Attributes for Success

  •  Strong understanding, or ability to gain strong understanding, of the Workday accounting system (including Adaptive) and Salesforce.

  •  A commitment to FoundationCCC’s mission and goals; the ability to interact easily with leaders at all levels, including the CFO, CEO and executive team, board members, colleagues, staff, stakeholders and professionals across the California Community College system.

  • Excellent written, oral and interpersonal communication skills; a team player who understands and can analyze and communicate the financial implications of business plans and activities and relay that information to external stakeholders, finance team members, internal staff, and board members.

  • We’re recruiting for mission-driven, passionate, equity-minded individuals with a strong desire to impact and change people’s lives for the better
