Your missions

Distributional is looking to hire an Applied Customer Engineer (ACE) to help our enterprise customers achieve success with their DBNL deployments. Distributional is building the modern enterprise platform for AI testing to make AI safe, secure, and reliable. Better AI testing is required to build confidence in AI-powered applications, and our ACEs are key to successful design and testing of AI systems for our customers. We are a seed stage company with successful startup experience backed by the best investors in the world including a16z, p72.vc, SVAngel, and more.

You should have a strong technical foundation and experience interacting with customers. You are able to digest customer feedback and communicate it to our product team, discerning between key product improvements and custom solutions for individual customers. You can develop expertise with the DBNL system and anticipate product issues before customers run into them, providing debugging and quality control to the product and engineering teams. You like designing and executing on projects in collaboration with customers to help their DBNL deployments reach maximum potential. You easily manage several projects and customer relations at once, from user stories to specs to sprints to dogfooding and feedback. You can work in a fast paced, ever evolving startup environment.

This position reports to the CTO. You will be working closely with the CTO and other members of the customer success, go-to-market and product teams to ensure our customers achieve successful AI testing with DBNL.

This is a remote position based in US/Canada. We provide 90th+ percentile Bay/NYC compensation packages. We have small outpost offices in Portland, Berkeley, and Toronto today.

What you will do day-to-day:
  • Use the DBNL system across a variety of problems to develop expertise with the system and empathy with our customer’s perspective.
  • Provide feedback for product improvements based on personal experience and customer feedback.
  • Develop documentation/tutorials detailing DBNL best practices.
  • Guide the deployment and successful usage of DBNL by your designated customers, including the integration with data and alert systems.
  • Design and execute special projects for customers to enable functionality unique to interested customers.
  • Help Distributional ensure that the platform effectively addresses the breadth of AI testing use cases by advocating for your customers and their viewpoints.
What skills we are looking for:
  • Experience: Time spent executing in a customer support context, ideally with professional services experience.
  • Discipline: Ability to manage multiple competing demands on your time while accounting for new opportunities/expectations.
  • Programmer: Solid programming skills are required – you will be shipping code to customers that they will be using in production.
  • Experimental: Willing to optimize by quickly iterating on process and product.
  • Remote team player: You listen well. You build consensus by default, but can drive hard decisions when you have to. You push the pace. You take blame and pass on praise. You live our values. You can do all of this with a remote team.
  • Openness: Open communication with everyone at Distributional.  Whether things are going poorly or well, you need to feel comfortable speaking up to ensure progress is made.
Bonus Points:
  • Education: Academic Background in Math, Computer Science, Stats.
  • Startups: Experience working with small, fast moving, and/or remote teams. Understanding of the rapid iteration and experimentation required to hone product market fit and cross the chasm in a new market.
  • Finance: Any background in financial services would be valued: payment processing, hedge funds, regulation, banking.
