Job description

Brighton Solutions is looking for an experienced Agile Scrum Master who is passionate about working on software projects and leading scrum teams. 

The candidate will be accountable for monitoring the scrum processes, guiding the team on how to use Scrum methodology, leading scrum meetings and resolving project impediments with the product owner and technical project manager. This person will be working on our digital publication platform. 

The ideal candidate is an organized, driven individual with a desire to develop and promote a positive and efficient working environment within the team and the organization. He or she will join an agile development team that works on high-profile client facing applications and will help the team follow established coding processes, facilitate team collaboration and provide feedback for improvements.

Principal Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Guide engineering teams, product teams, and our organization on how to best employ Agile & Scrum practices and values to improve existing Agile methodology.
  • Possesses conflict resolution, does conversation by focusing on scrum values of openness, honesty and respect.
  • Coordinates and runs Scrum ceremonies such as Sprints, from Iteration Planning through daily Scrum, including Iteration Reviews/Demos and Retrospectives.
  • Guides, motivates, removes barriers, and leads the team through problem solving activities.
  • Anticipates, resolves and escalates risks or issues to an appropriate level of management for timely resolution to support earlier, incremental delivery of value.
  • Assesses the Scrum maturity of the team and organization, coaching the team to higher levels of maturity utilizing CI experiments and retrospective feedback at a pace that is sustainable and comfortable for the team and organization.
  • Acts as front-line contact with the Product Owner, Dev Lead (Development Manager or BSM), and Project Manager on team and/or project related issues, responding to concerns with clear and concise feedback.
  • Collaborates with Product Owner and Technical Leaders to maintain a groomed, prioritized backlog is in place, taking sequencing, scope, and risk management into consideration.
  • Train and coach leaders and managers on how to identify, size, design, and deliver on their efforts.
  • Provides metrics (team performance, sprint burn downs, backlog assessments, quality measurement) to Project Managers, Program Managers, or Technical Leadership to assist with Release Planning and Forecasting activities.

Requirements & Experience:

  • ScrumMaster certification (CSM, CSPO, PMI-ACP, PSM I etc.)
  • 3+ years professional, enterprise level experience applying Agile Scrum principles and best practices
  • A great communicator across technical and non-technical teams
  • Experience playing the ScrumMaster role for distributed software development teams and complex projects
  • Facilitating discussion, decision making, and conflict resolution
  • Attention to detail, keen critical-thinking skills and comfortable utilizing data to solve problems
  • Experienced with story mapping, story sketching, decomposing work, estimating techniques
  • Experience with scope control and change management processes, policies, and principles.
  • Comfortable with ambiguity, being able to build and run at the same time, energized by a complex and evolving environment
  • Some experience in effectively navigating a highly matrixed organization
  • Experience with Agile management tools (i.e., Jira, Asana, VersionOne, Pivotal Tracker)
  • Excellent written, verbal, and electronic communication skills - Ability to get the point across
  • Assertive, ability to hold the team accountable

Preferred

  • Experience in Digital Publishing
  • Experience with Kanban agile methodology
  • Experience with Atlassian Jira & Confluence cloud
  • Experience working with SAFe Framework
  • PMI PMP Project Management Professional active certification
  • Awareness and experience with widely successful Agile techniques: User Stories, ATDD, TDD, Continuous Integration, Continuous Testing, Pairing, Automated Testing, Agile Games
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, or a related field
