Job Summary

Primary responsibilities for this position include obtaining insurance verification and authorization for E&M visits and treatments as required by third party insurance carriers, companies, and plans. Authorization & Biller will play a significant role in the accurate submission of claims so that payment is received in a timely manner. Therefore, a solid working knowledge of ICD10 CM, CPT and HCPCS codes is essential as is the submission and appeal process for healthcare related insurance claims.

Essential Functions

  • Obtaining and verifying authorizations as required by insurance companies and plans by contacting the patient, when applicable, and coordinating with the financial clearance center, when appropriate.
  • Daily entry & export of professional and/or facility charges in EHR databases Epic, Mosaiq and monitoring of associated work queues to facilitate charges from entry to payment.
  • Works with and assists senior billers and central billing office in resolving and resubmitting denied claims. Assists with work queues logistical and /or clerical problem resolution related to the patients’ medical record, authorization, and billing issues.
  • Keeps abreast of changes in authorization process, insurance policies, billing requirements, rejection, or denial codes as they pertain to claim processing and coding.
  • Assists patients with questions or concerns regarding their account.

Qualifications

Required

  • High School Diploma or equivalent

Preferred

  • Two years of college or professional school.
  • 1 year of relevant experience 1-2 years’ experience working in healthcare billing and/or coding preferred with good working knowledge of ICD10-CM, CPT and HCPCs coding.
  • Experience coding and/or billing in radiation oncology or comparable.
