POSITION DESCRIPTION

(HGL) has a position open for a Senior Site Safety and Health Officer IV to support HGL’s ongoing projects across the United States. As a Senior Site Safety and Health Officer IV, you will work with our high performing HGL Team and be responsible for being onsite during field activities and will require responsibility for overall project safety performance. HGL is flexible regarding the actual physical location of a candidate. Projects may include in situ thermal treatment, remediation, demolition, waste cleanup, landfill cap construction, contaminated sediment removals, and groundwater treatment (both in-situ and pump-n-treat) and stabilization projects.
WHAT YOU'LL BE DOING
The Safety and Health Officer IV responsibilities include:
- Developing and reviewing project planning documents pertaining to health and safety (APPs, AHAs, HASPs, etc.) to ensure safe project execution by the field team.
- Serving as the primary health and safety compliance point of contact with field teams consisting of HGL staff, subcontractors, and client personnel.
- Providing on-site daily safety and health briefings to HGL and subcontractor personnel.
- Generating and maintaining accurate and detailed health and safety documentation, including daily health and safety reports, inspection logs, non-conformance/deficiency logs, and required corrective actions.
- Updating AHAs as work progresses and communicating those updates with the project team.
- Communicating with HGL’s construction and health and safety management teams to ensure compliance with project-specific and corporate procedures.
- Implementing and enforcing on-site emergency response procedures.
- Maintaining all required on-site health and safety documentation, including personnel certifications, sign-in/orientation sheets, required OSHA signage, planning documents, and safety data sheets.
- Leading internal and client-facing meetings pertaining to planned and completed health and safety activities.
Required Skills
The ideal candidate will need the following as a foundation for success in this role:
- The ability to travel at least 70% of the time to support projects ranging in duration from approximately 1 month to 1 year.
- Minimum of 6 years’ experience serving as health and safety officer at construction projects, with 3 years’ experience on projects involving environmental contamination.
- Proficient knowledge of USACE Safety and Health Requirements Manual EM 385-1-1.
- Experience with health and safety procedures related to: air quality, hazardous waste, universal waste, investigation derived waste, wastewater, stormwater, spill prevention, decontamination, and health and safety inspections.
- Experience working on environmental construction/remediation projects involving demolition, excavation, grading, and environmental sampling.
- Working knowledge of Federal (OSHA) and state occupational and health and safety regulations.
- Experience performing project safety audits.
- Excellent communication, writing, and organization skills.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced group setting with corporate, project, and technical management staff.
- Proficiency in the Microsoft Office suite of software, specifically in Excel and Word.
- 40-hour OSHA HAZWOPER and current 8-hour OSHA HAZWOPER refresher certifications.
- OSHA 30-hour Construction Safety certification.
- Current CPR/First Aid training certificate.
