Job description

The Project Manager applies the best form of project management (Standard or Agile) to meet expectations will require the position to balance project resources with the right skills and experiences to execute against plans. This role is expected to manage a few projects (portfolio of projects) simultaneously.


There is an expectation that a body of knowledge currently exists or will be obtained through training and practice in the person taking on the role. The base knowledge consists of project cost management, schedule management, risk management, communications, scope management, resource management. All areas that require planning and control in the execution of a supply chain strategy.


A portfolio tool must be kept updated and accurate to reflect the projects under this position’s leadership and guidance. This position may have direct reports, and it is responsible for the performance and professional development and career guidance of those reports. This position is also responsible to manage assigned project resources from other functional areas and vendors at local and regional level during the duration of a given project.

This role reports to the Americas-Emea Supply Chain Director.


Responsibilities:

Delivery of New Operations Revenue Streams

  • Lead multiple projects in a matrixed environment by partnering with subject matter experts in operations, technology, human resources, finance, legal, and other functional teams internal to APL Logistics and external with customers, consultants, and vendors.
  • Using data to develop and optimize strategies and processes, increase profits, efficiency, quality, or security, and reduce costs.
  • Preparation of financial and other analysis for a range of deliverables, including market plans, scenario options, process improvements, management practices, and business unit communications.
  • The development or oversight of project timelines that demonstrate a realistic path from project initiation through go-live of services, and transition to ongoing operations.
  • Estimation or oversight of estimations for project cost of project implementation, and can include investments in time, facility infrastructure, technology, one-time expenses, or capital.
  • Management or oversight of cost from acceptance through project implementation with the ability to estimate variance at completion.
  • Defining, documenting, and evaluating risks associated with a project and the creation of a risk management plan to either avoid, mitigate, or transfer risk.
  • Project status reporting that delivers an accurate assessment of a projects health and is easily interpreted by executive leadership.
  • Integration of project documents with external customers and service providers, so plans represent the project in total, not just the APL Logistics elements.
  • Communications at the project team member level and the senior leadership level may require multiple communication methods.
  • Relationship management with regional operations management teams and regional functional heads to collect data and develop and implement regional strategies.
  • Maintain a portfolio management tool that accurately reflects the projects being worked, the overall status of each, a high-level timeline, and who is leading

Delivery of Business Analysis

This position is responsible for:

  • Leading market and industry research to gather information relevant to the project or client needs.
  • Completing and preparing business reports based on data analysis results that can be used to make company decisions.
  • Recommending changes in business processes or policies based on findings from research.
  • Recommending changes to improve efficiency in operations or procedures.
  • Communicating with manager and APLL Executive Management team to provide information about progress made on projects.
  • Interpreting data and analyzing results to help manager and APLL Executive Management team make better business decisions.
  • This position directly coordinates with APLL Americas-EMEA COO and Region VPs
  • This position will lead and manage cross functional teams from APLL Americas-EMEA region, APLL and client technology teams, client operations teams, and as well as vendor teams.

Capabilities and Competencies

  • This position develops project budgets by developing rough order of magnitude (ROM) cost estimates and/or definitive (detailed design) cost estimates.
  • This position reviews and estimates design costs including equipment, installation, labor, materials, preparation, and other related costs. Inspects or directs the inspection of facility set up and installation progress to ensure conformance to established drawings, specifications, and schedules.
  • This role plays an active role leading the development and documentation of any related operational processes and procedures. This includes general Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and/ or Logistics Procedures.
  • This role plays an active role planning, coordinating, and monitoring the execution of user acceptance tests.
  • This position will lead the design and development of change management programs APLL deploys as it prepares its regional operations management and functional teams for new system deployment, system upgrades, new technology deployment or process improvements plans.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Industrial Engineering, Finance, preferred or equivalent degree.
  • MBA Degree, preferred.
  • Languages: English (verbal and writing). Spanish is a plus.
  • At least 7 years of experience in supply chain industry
  • At least 5 years of experience of logistics operations management
  • At least 5 years of experience managing multiple projects directly or through direct reports.
  • Experience managing, understanding, and interpreting data in order to identify trends and make predictions about future outcomes.
  • Project Management credentials: preferable PMP® from the Project Management Institute
  • Detail-oriented, highly organized, with the ability to handle communications, reporting, status reports, issues logs, for multiple projects/ customers simultaneously.
  • Demonstrated ability to work in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment handling multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Demonstrated ability to work across multiple time zone and with multicultural teams.
  • Strong communication skills to support weekly status call, steering committee meetings, customer presentations, etc.
  • Strong public speaking skills to prepare and deliver oral presentations internally and with customer teams

  • The candidate must function in a fast-paced project environment, and lead and collaborate in the development of integrated solutions for existing operations as well as for new customers.
  • Excellent analytical, critical thinking, problem solving, conflict resolution, and decision-making skills.
  • Experience in the implementation of supply chain strategies through standard project management or Agile methodologies.
  • Experience in the global logistics industry preferably in warehousing services, freight forwarding services, domestic transportation services.
  • The ability to travel for customer engagements and project related work.
  • Continued education for obtaining and maintaining professional credentials in project management.
  • Demonstrated written and verbal communications skills at all levels of an organization.


Candidates must be within 250 miles of an APL Logistics facility or office.


Compensation: $88,130 - $130,000/year

**The actual salary offer will take into account multiple factors including skills, experience, education and location. Please note that the salary details listed in role postings reflect the base salary only, not total compensation, which includes bonus and benefits.
