Position Title: Financial Controller
Position Location: Remote – work virtually from anywhere in the United States

JOB SUMMARY
The Financial Controller will lead the accounting and financial functions within the organization, focusing on managing daily accounting efforts, risk management, and financial/operational strategy development.

They will work with analysts and developers and leverage their own technological proficiency with SQL, relational databases, and reporting & analytics platforms to optimize financial reporting, analysis, and compliance.

The Financial Controller will work with executive leadership to identify and mitigate potential financial risks and improve overall financial efficiency and effectiveness.

The Financial Controller will be self-directed on day-to-day work and independently perform most responsibilities.  Will lead teams and projects or tasks of complex scope and broader programs.  Will coordinate activities of other personnel.  Assists in the development of policies and procedures. 

This person will communicate and operate in line with organizational goals and values, as well as departmental objectives. 

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Financial Oversight & Strategy Development (40%)
  • Oversee the financial operations of the organization, including month-end close, budgeting, forecasting, and financial planning.
  • Work with leadership to align financial strategies with organizational goals
  • Ensure compliance with relevant accounting standards, regulations, and internal controls
  • Coordinate and manage the annual audit process and tax filings

Financial Reporting & Analysis (30%)
  • Work with Software Engineering & IT and leverage experience with SQL, Power BI, and other reporting platforms to generate accurate and insightful financial reports and dashboards, including KPI’s, budgets, and forecasts
  • Use advanced knowledge of Excel and other analytical tools to conduct in-depth financial analysis and provide recommendations for improvement
  • Prepare accurate and timely financial reports, including income statements, balance sheets, cash flow statements, and variance analysis reports
  • Enhance report presentation through skilled use of visuals and infographics, effectively telling the financial story and aiding in decision-making processes

Process Improvement & System Implementation (20%)
  • Improve efficiency by revamping existing processes and developing new ones, implementing appropriate control systems.
  • Play a leading role in ERP system upgrades and / or implementations, ensuring seamless integration and compliance
  • Work closely with the IT and other relevant departments to optimize the use of technology in financial functions
  • Drive adoption of using reports and data to create a culture of data-driven decision making, particularly at the director and executive team level, ensuring strategic alignment and informed decision-making

Team Management & Development (10%)
  • Oversee the finance department, ensuring the professional development and efficiency of internal accounting team members
  • Hire and train team members, fostering a collaborative and inclusive environment
  • Ensure the team adheres to organizational values and objectives

Completion of Assigned Tasks and Deliverables on Time and on Budget
Performs Other Related Duties as Assigned

Requirements
POSITION REQUIREMENTS (ADVANCED LEVEL FOR ALL THE FOLLOWING)
  • Proven skills in finance, including flexibility in approach to problem-solving and ability to push beyond standard methods to find innovative solutions
  • Knowledge of GAAP and their application to a variety of accounting transactions and problems
  • Knowledge of financial research and report preparation methods and techniques as well as the ability to prepare a variety of complex financial statements, reports, analyses, and ad hoc queries
  • Advise on financial analyses and decision-making regarding capital investments, pricing, contract negotiations, costs, benchmarks and other management matters
  • Skilled using MS Office Suite (Excel – Expert Level, Word, Outlook, PowerPoint, Teams)
  • Familiarity with relational database design and query languages
  • Skilled in report writing tools and business intelligence platforms 
  • Experience with ERP software and configuration and the ability to manage system upgrades and continuous improvement processes
  • Ability to communicate verbally and in writing technical and non-technical information
  • Ability to maintain high standards of confidentiality and honesty
  • Ability to accurately prepare and maintain records, files and reports
  • Ability to quickly build collaborative relationships with individuals at all levels within the organization
  • Ability to see the bigger picture and provide guidance, strategic advice and integrate different points of view

TRAVEL / RELOCATION REQUIREMENTS
  • Up to 5%, this may include travel to any or all 50 US states 
  • Travel is defined as physically leaving home on behalf of business activities including but not limited to client sites, meetings with other employees, meeting for business development purposes, running errands on behalf of the business, attending industry conferences, etc.


EDUCATION / EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS
  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Information Systems or related field

PLUS
  • 13 years of experience with Accounting & Business Information Systems
