DEPARTMENT OVERVIEW

The WGBH Education Department creates, distributes, and promotes free media resources to support innovative teaching and learning for all ages. Our interactive lessons, award-winning videos, and hands-on activities are designed for classrooms, homes, and community settings and delivered via mobile devices, online, and in print. Through in-person workshops, multimedia presentations, messaging campaigns, and other community engagement models, we enable our audiences to expand their knowledge, improve their skills, and enrich their lives.  

PBS LearningMedia (pbslearningmedia.org) is a partnership of PBS and WGBH. This digital service brings together the best available high-quality media from 1500 public media producers and more than 350 local PBS stations. PBS LearningMedia is a next-generation digital media platform for PreK-16 classrooms, which helps re-imagine classroom learning, creatively engage students, and transform teaching. 
 

JOB OVERVIEW

Under the supervision of the Director of STEM Curriculum and Instruction and the Senior Producer, the editor is responsible for revising existing lesson plans and associated materials for the Bringing the Universe to America’s Classrooms (BUAC) project to align them to new project templates. 

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Working with Director of STEM Curriculum and Instruction, review the BUAC template and outline the elements to be updated for the lesson plans per the new requirements
  • Revise lesson plans and associated resources and materials to effectively address Next Generation Science Standards, in accordance with the provided WGBH template
  • Revise lesson plans and associated resources and materials to address feedback from WGBH reviewers and subject matter experts
  • Submit final drafts of lesson plans and associated resources and materials that follow all template requirements and incorporate reviewer feedback

SKILL SET

  • Strong understanding of the Next Generation Science Standards and how to create NGSS-focused resources for teachers and students
  • Ability to work independently while staying within the strict parameters of the assigned tasks
  • Strong organizational, written, and oral communication skills and a strict attention to detail are essential
  • Ability to work to tight production deadlines

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

BA/BS preferred and at least eight years high-level educational writing experience
