About the Department

The CALS Office of Information Technology (CALS OIT) strives to enhance the academic mission and business priorities of the college. This position will join the Business Intelligence and Technology Innovation team within CALS OIT. The BI Team is responsible for delivery and management of strategic data analytics and information technology solutions.

The Opportunity

As the Programmer Analyst III, you will become a trusted resource for data analytics projects. You will actively engage with customers to understand and support data-driven decision-making efforts.  A successful candidate will need to have a keen ability to present a comprehensive 'data story' to multiple levels of the organization.

Developing knowledge of Cornell enterprise data sources and exercising analytical rigor are paramount to this position. Using a customer-centric data analysis approach, you will build and maintain complex reports, dashboards, and ad hoc queries using a data tools including Tableau, OBIEE/OAS, and SQL. In this role, you will also collaboratively help design, plan and implement repeatable integrations between a variety of data sources and administrative information systems.

What We Need

Required Qualifications:

The successful candidate will have a Bachelor’s degree and three (3) – five (5) years experience or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Additional required qualifications include the ability to:

  • Collaborate closely with cross-functional teams to create robust analytical reporting and compelling visualizations.
  • Apply understanding of data warehousesrelational databases, and proficiency in SQL query language to extract meaningful and accurate information.
  • Maintain and enhance complex operational data reporting systems with a focus on scalability and performance.
  • Design, develop, validate, and meticulously document complex data flows from multiple enterprise sources.
  • Work on multiple simultaneous projects, collaborating with stakeholders across the college to perform data analyses of business needs and processes.
  • Leverage superior communication skills to convey insights clearly and confidently, both verbal and written, in a way that resonates with both business and technical audiences.
  • Provide excellent customer service by proactively engaging with campus colleagues to set priorities, manage expectations, and ensure a positive experience for all.
  • Effectively train and communicate intricate data concepts to end users.
  • Demonstrate your commitment to diversity, equity, access, inclusion, and well-being.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master’s Degree or equivalent; three (3)+ year of experience or equivalent.
  • Strong knowledge of Tableau and OBIEE/OAS with an aptitude to learn other analytics tools.
  • Experience supporting Azure ETL tools and knowledge of best practices.
  • Broad knowledge of administrative functions and systems at Cornell including a preference for experience with student data, PeopleSoft, and KFS.
  • Experience working in a higher educational institution.
