Job description

Overview:

Responsible for management, administration, and selective technical and analytical support of financial information systems that support budgeting, reporting, and financial control activities for the Finance division.         

Primary Responsibilities:
  • Oversee a team of managers, analysts and support staff that is responsible for maintenance and improvement of the various financial information systems that support the bank’s internal and external financial reporting, budgeting, forecasting, and profitability measurement.
  • Lead/support projects that are initiated both inside and outside of Finance that affect the bank’s financial systems.  In consultation with Finance senior management and M&T’s Central Technology department, maintain and prioritize the Finance technology roadmap and participate on enterprise wide projects. Collaborate with direct reports to identify and implement procedures that ensure operational sustainability, and efficiency improvements.
  • Coach and develop junior managers for a sustainable bench-strength and resource planning.
  • Exercise usual authority of a manager concerning staffing, performance appraisals, promotions, salary recommendations, performance management and terminations.
  • Understand and adhere to the Company’s risk and regulatory standards, policies and controls in accordance with the Company’s Risk Appetite.  Design, implement, maintain and enhance internal controls to mitigate risk on an ongoing basis.  Identify risk-related issues needing escalation to management.
  • Promote an environment that supports diversity and reflects the M&T Bank brand.
  • Maintain M&T internal control standards, including timely implementation of internal and external audit points together with any issues raised by external regulators as applicable.
  • Complete other related duties as assigned.

Scope of Responsibilities:

Supervisory/ Managerial Responsibilities:

Manages subordinate managers. Full supervisory, development of team through professional leadership. Possess ability to direct/persuade/influence across division and peers throughout the bank

Education and Experience Required: 

Bachelor’s degree and a minimum 9 years’ experience in financial information systems and reporting or a related field with 3 years’ managerial experience or in lieu of a degree, a combined minimum of 13 years’ higher education and/or work experience with 3 years’ managerial experience

Advanced personal computer skills with solid knowledge of Excel, Access, and other specialized financial and business intelligence software

Excellent knowledge of technology, systems, and applications that support M&T’s financial information management ecosystem

Thorough knowledge of project management concepts and applications

Solid proven leadership/managerial ability

Education and Experience Preferred: 

Advanced degree in business or information systems

Experience in financial planning and analysis, accounting, strategic planning with financial services industry
