Job Description


The Scrum Master serves as the servant leader to their teams continuously working to help their teams establish an effective and efficient flow of value to their customer by sparking continuous improvement of its practices, growth and development of its members, and engineering of effective and efficient team of team structures.


Models ethical behavior and executes job responsibilities in accordance with Citizens core values, ethics, and information protection policies.

Serves as Scrum Master for 2-3 teams facilitating team events such as sprint planning, daily stand-ups, sprint reviews, retrospectives, and PI planning events. Enables team to establish and maintain alignment with other teams. Mentors and coaches other Scrum Masters, Product Owners and Leadership on lean agile practices and principles.

Facilitates collaborative team competency and health assessments and in-turn, the development of unique growth and development paths. Contributes to the training, mentoring, coaching and adoption of new competencies and skills that lead to new levels of team capabilities. Mentos and coaches other Scrum Masters on proven methods.

Enables their teams to hold themselves accountable for maintaining focus on quarterly objectives, sprint goals, quality, and the continuous delivery of value. Develops and spurs adoption of methods for establishing psychological safety and “safe to fail” culture enterprise wide.

Leverages expert facilitation skills and ability to customize the agendas of agile ceremonies to best fit within the needs of the team while still producing both desired and mandatory outcomes. Trains and mentors other Scrum Masters on team facilitation and product/service demonstrations.

Proactively identifies impediments and appropriately resolves or escalates using network of peers and formal channels. Represents teams at team-of-team events such as Scrum of Scrums. Facilitates resolution of conflict within team.

Enables the ability of teams to effectively match performance metrics to desired goal state and to in-turn track, interpret and action each effectively. Observes while enabling team to reflect on performance to spur continuous improvement and progress in pursuit of team goals. Helps team foster team growth and pursuit of t-shaped skills.



Expert knowledge of Agile and Lean practices, principles, and patterns for adoption of Scrum, Kanban, and SAFe.

Expert knowledge of the software development lifecycle.

Expert knowledge of value delivery tools.

Expert knowledge of differences in facilitation, coaching, mentoring, and training methods.

Extensive knowledge of team collaboration techniques.

Proven and adaptable interpersonal, communication, and collaboration skills.

Expert servant leader; work well within a team.

Advanced coach, facilitator, trainer, and mentor.

Advanced leader of lean agile practices and principles adoption.

Advanced ability to apply systems thinking to solve problems and identify improvement opportunities.

Expert knowledge of value delivery tools.

Advanced planning and organizational skills.


High School Diploma or equivalent.

Bachelor’s Degree (Business, Information Technology, Computer Science or similar) OR 4 years relevant experience OR a combination of college education and relevant experience equivalent to 4 years.

Other Certifications/Licenses Required: Scrum Master II or SAFe Level II


5 years or more experience working as a Scrum Master in a Scrum Master capacity.


Experience with property insurance systems development or maintenance.

Strong understanding of lean concepts and techniques such as Six Sigma.

At least 3 years of experience with Agile lifecycle management tools such as Rally.

Scaled Agile Framework (SAFe) certification (e.g., SPC, RTE, SA, SASM).

2 years of Agile Coaching, Instructional design, and training facilitation experience.

Advanced knowledge of XP and Kanban methods.

Professional Agile Leadership (PAL-E).

Considering or pursuing PMI-ACP or PMP-PMI certification.


This position requires the ability to sit for long periods of time, hear and converse over the telephone and key frequently on a computer (4 or more hours per day).
