Job Responsibilities:**
The Lead Systems Administrator position is a Linux Operations team which in turn belongs to the Global IT Operations team. This team strives to provide a consistent level of world-class, utility grade support for its internal and external customers, to ultimately deliver a positive customer experience. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:**
- Performing System Administration in multiple Linux environments. This includes designing and maintaining proper procedures at the OS and applications level, building servers and images, troubleshooting and deep tuning for performance gains.
- Lead troubleshooting efforts and driving towards quick and effective solutions to business impacting issues.
- Leading root cause investigations to determine why problems happen and proposing and implementing solutions to mitigate them.
- Develop, document and champion best practices for systems administration.
- Providing technical guidance and expertise while working with business groups to support critical business applications.
- Proven ability to proactively lead teams in multi-disciplinary tech triage meetings to quickly resolve technical issues.
- Developing automation and processes for and participating in regular OS currency efforts (patching/upgrades)
- A passion for automation and creating hands off processes to promote operational efficiency and maximize uptime.
- Ability to perform proof of concept evaluations of new techniques and technologies including proposition, implementation, testing, documentation and communication of results.
- Deploy new systems and develop automation to deploy new systems using industry standard tools (RedHat Satellite, kickstart, Ansible, scripting , etc)
- Keep current with emerging technologies, evaluating and promoting environmental change to promote economy, efficiency and operational effectiveness.
Job Requirements:
QUALIFICATIONS:
- 7+ years supporting mission-critical systems in a production environment.
- Deep (5+ years) knowledge of Linux system architecture, build, [ upgrade and patching ], support and scripting preferably RedHat variants (Centos, Fedora, Oracle Enterprise Linux, etc)
- Knowledge of VMWare ESX, Docker, Kubernetes, [ Cisco, ] and other virtualization platforms is a big plus
- Experience with clustering for high availability
- MS Azure/Oracle Cloud experience (Google and Amazon cloud experience also welcome) a significant plus
- Proven, and demonstrated technical expertise at a Systems Administrator’s level specifically of Linux systems supporting enterprise-critical applications.
- Demonstrated knowledge in the components, support, and troubleshooting of various environments from Development to Production.
- Ability to focus in a fast-paced and constantly changing environment.
- Must possess exceptional organizational, written & verbal communication skills.
- Ability to work independently as a self-starter as well as proven ability to lead teams and actively contribute to projects
- Must be available for 7x24 on-call support as part of a rotation schedule

Travel is rare.
- Ability and willingness to mentor/train Junior Linux administrators.
- High energy, confidence in abilities, and pride in ownership are key qualities.
- Experience with Red Hat Satellite, Spacewalk, Ansible, and other commercial and open-source automation and deployment tools is highly desired.
- Understanding of scripting with SaltStack or similar automation tools such as Chef or Puppet.
- Strong scripting experience (Bash, Ruby, Python, etc)

The below range reflects the range of possible compensation for this role at the time of this posting. We may ultimately pay more or less than the posted range. This range may be modified in the future. An employee’s position within the salary range will be based on several factors including, but not limited to, relevant education, qualifications, certifications, experience, skills, seniority, geographic location, performance, shift, travel requirements, sales or revenue-based metrics, any collective bargaining agreements, and business or organizational needs. The salary range for this role is $61,000.00 _to $115,000.00.
