Husch Blackwell LLP is a full-service litigation and business law firm with multiple locations across the United States, serving clients with domestic and international operations. We have an immediate opening for a Director of Revenue Cycle Operations. This position may be filled virtually or in any of our HB locations.

The Director of Revenue Cycle Operations will have leadership responsibility for all aspects of Firmwide client billing and revenue services, including providing guidance and oversight to multiple related departments, currently organized into Billing, Collections and Accounts Receivable. This role is actively involved in the process of identifying, recommending, developing, and implementing changes that benefit the Firm’s bottom line by improving the effectiveness and efficiency of client billing and revenue receipt. Essential job functions include:

  • Lead the Firm’s client billing capabilities across all offices, collaborating and interfacing with the Firm’s Partners and Billing Attorneys, Chief Operating Officer, Chief Financial Officer, Managing Directors, and other members of finance, technology and operations management; provide proactive advice and guidance to Firm leadership on revenue generation matters, potential issues and risks, and other key data and analysis.
  • Direct and enable enhancements to the Firm’s revenue cycle related teams and operations; ensure cohesion, consistency, and alignment of the Firm’s resources; and drive related organizational, process, technology, and infrastructure change.
  • Cultivate seamless and highly effective working relationships, interoperability, and lines of communication across the organization.
  • Manage, mentor, and develop staff; and foster a highly responsive, team-oriented, client service-focused approach with the utmost commitment to professional excellence.
  • Design, implement, and maintain controls and methodologies to ensure accurate and value-added narratives and prompt processing of time entry and client invoices and accumulation of statistics used for financial analysis and performance evaluations; oversee billing work-in-process (unbilled time and disbursements), the attorney pre-bill review process, and associated technology/software, cost loads, and e-billing.
  • Develop a deep understanding of the Firm’s industry structure, practices, clients, and business and evaluate and drive corresponding functional enhancements, operational efficiencies, innovation, and continuous improvement across the Firm.
  • In conjunction with the Firm’s technology department and financial systems teams, support the installation of software system upgrades; strategize and determine which additional software would be beneficial to deploy; and interface with attorneys to determine appropriate reports to be generated to meet their informational requirements.
  • Oversee project design, implementation, and maintenance of electronic billing processes, bill templates, task-based billing and reporting.
  • Develop and implement changes that improve the customer experience of Firm CRM’s as it relates to revenue cycle related activities and benefit the Firm’s revenue and net income.

    • Repetitive Motion. Substantial movements (motions) of the wrists, hands, and/or fingers.
  • The physical requirements of this position:
    • Sedentary work. Exerting up to 10 pounds of force occasionally and/or negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects, including the human body. Sedentary work involves sitting most of the time.
  • The visual acuity requirements including color, depth perception, and field vision:
    • The worker is required to have close visual acuity to perform an activity such as: preparing and analyzing data and figures; transcribing; viewing a computer terminal; extensive reading; visual inspection involving small defects, small parts, and/or operation of machines (including inspection); using measurement devices; and/or assembly or fabrication parts at distances close to the eyes.

  • Bachelor’s degree with major coursework in related field required; CPA, MBA and/or other advanced degrees preferred; Industry certifications preferred.
  • 10 years’ progressive expertise in related area required; 10 years' management experience required.
  • A minimum of 7-10 years of client billing and relevant financial management experience with major law firms or other highly sophisticated professional services firms.
  • Demonstrated record driving and leading client billing functions in a centralized, cohesive environment, with strong change management and transformative leadership abilities.
  • A strong background in financial technology, applications, systems, and solutions in the professional services industry; experience using e-billing, and other software for client billing strongly preferred.
  • Proven success managing, mentoring, and developing high-performance teams; cultivating a unified, “one team” mentality and approach, strong lines of communication and collaboration; and the highest levels of operational excellence.
  • Substantial experience leading company-wide initiatives within a multi-office setting, preferably in a professional services firm environment required.
  • Ability to demonstrate impeccable integrity in personal and fiduciary matters.
  • Experience working with senior leadership to make recommendations or build consensus.
  • Strategic planning, budget planning and implementation, project management, database management, and/or report writing experience preferred.
  • Demonstrated advanced knowledge of Microsoft Word and Excel; knowledge of all MS Office products strongly preferred.
  • Ability to become proficient in the Firm’s Document Management System.
  • Ability to effectively lead and strengthen a team to deliver high performance and ensure initiatives are effectively and efficiently delivered.
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and spoken and ability to establish credibility, build trust, and develop positive working relationships with team members, firm leadership, lawyers, and other professionals.
  • Demonstrated ability to maintain a high degree of confidentiality, discretion, and composure in stressful situations.
  • Proven success in creating clarity and consistency in a fast-paced, service-oriented environment.
  • Ability to organize and prioritize multiple projects in a dynamic and complex environment, meeting deadlines and successfully managing the daily workload.
