The Associate Director of Accounting (ADA) will direct, manage, and optimize a global shared services team providing transactional accounting services for domestic publishing entities and support of internal groups such as Digital Marketing Services, Corporate Accounting, and others.

The ADA will be an integral contributor to the overall accuracy and efficiency of Financial Shared Services (FSS) outputs. Critical responsibilities of this role include team management, implementing best practices, risk mitigation and compliance, and providing leadership.

Additionally, the ADA will be responsible for quarterly variance analysis reporting and control compliance reviews for the “FSS”.

Primary Responsibilities/Tasks
  • Work with the VP of Financial Shared Services in the development and implementation of efficient month end processes, analytical reviews and controls which ensure timeliness, accuracy and completeness of balance sheet account reconciliations and site reporting.
  • Direct and manage the team responsible for various functional areas of accounting including, but not limited to, Fixed Assets, Lease Accounting, Grants, Trade Agreements, Prepaid expense, Postage as well as Sales, Property and Unclaimed Property Tax liabilities.
  • Performs review and approval of work performed by the team (GL journal entries, balance sheet account reconciliations, lease accounting packages, e.g.) and provides on-going training and development for the team which includes members both domestic and abroad. May also approve invoices related to functional area spend (i.e., lease payments, tax related disbursements, union dues payments).
  • Performs quality reviews of operational metrics and looks for efficiencies in processes, also completes or supports internal control compliance reviews under the guidance of FSS management.
  • Provides support during Internal and External audit processes. Also provides support to corporate tax regarding sales and property tax audits.
  • Standardizes, streamlines, and offers solutions to manual and/or inefficient processes.
